Launch of Cream in Liverpool and Renaissance in Mansfield

20,000 ravers descended on Castlemorton Common for the biggest illegal rave ever held in the UK. It resulted in a £4m trial and the passing of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act.

Manchester punk & electronic music label Factory Records declares bankruptcy. The label spent all their funds recording the Happy Mondays album, Yes Please!, which flopped.

The Shamen’s Ebeneezer Goode, widely criticised for containing many allusions to the drug Ecstasy, stayed at the top of the UK charts for four weeks.

ITV show The Hitman and Her comes from the Eclipse in Coventry.

The KLF performed a thrash metal version of ‘3am Eternal’ with Extreme Noise Terror at the Brit Awards, then delivered a dead sheep to the afterparty. The band then announce their retirement and delete their back catalogue.

Larry Levan, legendary for his residency at New York's Parardice Garage dies aged just 38.
